Resin and mixed media on canvas · 92 x 77cm · framed, deep 6cm edges
Driving around New Zealand, Rachel kept noticing what looked like smoke rising from the landscape in the distance. She soon realised it was the steam rising from many thermal springs. Curiosity got the better of her, and she began following it, finding pools of hot water sitting right in the landscape, the ground around them warmed and coloured by the heat. This painting brings together what she found there: sun, steam and land.
In the geothermal areas, plumes of steam rise straight out of the ground and drift across the sky, while the earth below is warmed and coloured by the heat. This painting brings those three elements together.
It's warm, atmospheric and full of light, a painting that feels like a memory of a journey. Framed and ready to hang, it would be a beautiful focal point in a living room, hallway, or bedroom.
Materials + Care
For original paintings: painted on canvas or board using acrylic, resin or mixed media. Hang away from direct sunlight and damp. Dust gently with a soft dry cloth. Do not clean with water or solvents. For canvas prints: printed on a poly-cotton blend canvas with a matte/satin finish, scratch, crack and warp resistant. Wipe gently with a barely damp cloth if needed. For paper prints: printed on premium fine art paper. Handle with care — avoid moisture and direct sunlight to preserve colours.
