This is the first of a series of three large flower paintings, all sparked by a book of drawings by Jim Dine. Of the three, this is the quiet one: soft, misty and a little dreamlike.
Orchid stems, trailing silver leaves and a tall pink flower head are drawn in loose, confident charcoal, then painted over and scratched back again. Behind them, gentle blocks of ochre and plum suggest vases, or a windowsill. They sit in a hazy wash of grey, sage and the faintest blush pink, like early morning light through a window.
Look closely and you'll find the small things: a dandelion clock, a fine scratch in the surface, a leaf only half there. It's still life, but it doesn't feel still. You can see Rachel's hand in every line.
At a full metre square, glazed and framed, it has real presence. It would work beautifully in a calm living space or a bedroom. It could hang on its own, or alongside its sister paintings, Yellow and Green Flower Arrangement and Red Hot Pokers.

Materials + Care
For original paintings: painted on canvas or board using acrylic, resin or mixed media. Hang away from direct sunlight and damp. Dust gently with a soft dry cloth. Do not clean with water or solvents. For canvas prints: printed on a poly-cotton blend canvas with a matte/satin finish, scratch, crack and warp resistant. Wipe gently with a barely damp cloth if needed. For paper prints: printed on premium fine art paper. Handle with care — avoid moisture and direct sunlight to preserve colours.

UK delivery is free on original paintings up to 100cm. Larger or heavier works are delivered by specialist art courier for £75. Dispatched within 7 working days, carefully packed in my Cornwall studio, fully insured and tracked. Original paintings can be returned within 14 days of receiving them.
