A painting made for your space
Some of my favourite paintings have started with a conversation. A commission is a chance to create something that belongs to you alone: a place you love, a journey you’ll never forget, or a painting made to fit one particular wall in your home.
I’ve painted commissions for collectors’ dining rooms, living rooms and high, awkward walls, from a single statement piece to a set of four paintings designed to fill a tall gable above a pair of doors.
How a commission works
1. We talk. We start with a chat, in person, on the phone or by email, about the place, the memories and the feeling you’d like the painting to hold. I’ll ask about colours you love, the room it will hang in and the size of the wall.
2. Measuring the space. If you can, send me a few photos of the room and the wall measurements, so the painting is the right size and sits comfortably with your furniture.
3. Samples and ideas. I make small sample pieces or sketches so you can see the colours, textures and mood before I begin. We talk them through together until it feels right.
4. Painting. Once we’ve agreed the design and price, a 30% deposit secures your commission and covers the materials. I then build the painting in my Cornwall studio using my layered mixed media technique of paint, print and collage, and I’ll keep you updated with photos along the way.
5. Delivery and hanging. When your painting is finished and the balance is paid, it’s carefully packed by hand and sent fully insured and tracked, or you’re welcome to collect it from the studio.
A set of four for a tall gable wall
This commission began with a beautiful but tricky space: a high, vaulted wall above a pair of garden-room doors. One painting alone would have looked lost, so I designed a set of four: a large statement piece with three smaller squares beneath it, all inspired by the textures and colours of Cornish rock pools.
Together they fill the wall, pick up the warm wood and greenery of the room, and draw the eye up into the height of the ceiling.

What collectors say
“We asked Rachel to paint our first trip up the Amazon to Manaus, where the Amazon and Rio Negro meet. She made sample plaques, talked them through with us, then produced this wonderful piece. Her attention to our requirements and her thought process in producing this painting was amazing. Treasured forever.”

“Friendly, passionate about her work and communicated with us throughout the whole process. We are delighted with it and it is admired by all who visit our home. The perfect addition to our forever home.”

Start your commission
Every commission is different, so prices depend on the size and complexity of the piece. A 30% deposit is taken when the design is agreed, so I can buy the materials, with the balance due when the painting is finished. Get in touch to tell me what you have in mind, and we’ll take it from there.
