Cove Textures 1

Acrylic on canvas. 120 x 143 cm

Stand inside a sea cave at low tide and the world rearranges itself. The cave mouth frames the sky. Light enters from unexpected angles. The rock above you is dark and ancient and dripping. And somewhere in the middle distance, foam gathers and circles in patterns .

This large painting captures that particular feeling of being inside the coast rather than looking at it from the outside. Bold black forms arch across the upper canvas like cave walls or cliff edges, framing a composition of extraordinary complexity below. White circles and rings gather and float , sea foam, rock pools, the circular traces are a memory of bubbles from thrown in stone or boulder . A great slab of dark grey cliff face dominates the right. Flashes of teal, lime and pale blue suggest light finding its way into dark places.

This is a painting that changes as you move around it. That reveals itself slowly. That asks for a large wall and the confidence to let it fill the room.

Acrylic on canvas. 120 x 143cm. A significant and commanding work.
