If you love a garden in late summer, when everything is tall and tumbling and a little wild, this is the painting for you. It comes from Rachel's own garden in Cornwall, and it's full of the energy of a border at its peak.
Echinacea fills the foreground in deep violet, with great peach flower heads arching above, their petals swinging down like dancers' skirts. Between them there are bright white daisies, blush-pink buds, and a haze of burnt-orange seed heads standing to attention in the late sun. Rachel lets the paint do what the plants do: it layers and spills and overlaps, with little dots and scribbles like pollen and seed.
The palette is bold but never brash. Plum, peach, sage and sea-green sit against a soft grey sky, and it's one of those paintings that makes you smile every time you walk past. It's framed and ready to hang, perfect for a kitchen, a garden room, or anywhere that needs a lift of colour all year round.
Materials + Care
For original paintings: painted on canvas or board using acrylic, resin or mixed media. Hang away from direct sunlight and damp. Dust gently with a soft dry cloth. Do not clean with water or solvents. For canvas prints: printed on a poly-cotton blend canvas with a matte/satin finish, scratch, crack and warp resistant. Wipe gently with a barely damp cloth if needed. For paper prints: printed on premium fine art paper. Handle with care — avoid moisture and direct sunlight to preserve colours.
