Its granite cliff face looks like a single wall from a distance, but stand close and you see it is a patchwork: fractured into blocks, each one weathered differently, each with its own colour and grain.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eCliff Wall Contours grew out of that noticing. I let the natural fault lines of the rock divide the canvas into sections, then gave each section its own surface, using my own hand-printed papers to echo the shifts in texture from one block of granite to the next. Deep teals and sea blues sit against chalky whites and slate greys, held together by the dark seams that run through the whole face.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt's a large, immersive piece, built up in layers of paper and paint so the surface has real depth.
